It is widely recognized that wholesale electricity markets tend to be prone to the exercise of market power. The exercise of market power has antisocial impacts in the liberalised electricity markets. It results in inefficient short-term dispatch outcomes, and affects the efficiency of longer-term generation investment decisions. And thus, it results in power price rises and substantial wealth transfers between electricity customers and generators. Electricity market regulators around the world tend to be interested in mechanisms for predicting marker power ex ante and detecting and controlling the exercise of market power ex post. The common indices of ex ante market power indicators however, mostly disregard transmission constraints, variation of wind farms’ capacities, and dynamics of electric power systems. This paper carries out a probabilistic study of market power using an index termed Probabilistic Transmission-Constrained Pivotal Supplier Indicator (Probabilistic TC-PSI). Two probabilistic approaches (a) Monte Carlo Method (MCM), and (b) Two-Point Estimation Method (T-PEM) are employed in the probabilistic study and then compared to each other.

Recent studies show that the apparel industry is very volatile in nature. The marketing strategies and approaches to reach the consumers, which worked “yesterday”, might be completely different or as we call outdated as of “today”. Changing styles of apparels, known as fashion or trend has evolved over time and would continue to. This requires the apparel industry entrepreneurs to walk hand-in-hand with the trend to fulfil the demands of their fashionable customers. The taste for apparels or clothing of the customers depends on many factors, namely country, culture, environment, purpose as well as age groups. My focus of research and current study deals with apparel market in Germany. The findings and survey made in my study would be the basis for developing marketing strategies for apparels in the German market. This would be one of the building blocks for my further project of establishing an apparel business in Germany.
The notion of market power is central to antitrust law. Under EU law, antitrust rules refer to appreciable restrictions of competition (Article 101 (1) TFEU, ex Article 81(1) TEC), the elimination of competition for a substantial part of the market (Article 101 (3) TFEU, ex Article (81(3) TEC), dominant positions (Article 10 2 TFEU, ex Article 82 TEC) and substantial impediment to effective competition, in particular by creating or reinforcing a dominant position (Article 2 of the EU Merger Regulation). At first sight, only the concept of dominant position relates to market power but it is the aim of this book to demonstrate that the other concepts are directly linked to the notion of market power. This is done by reference to the case law of the EU Courts and the precedents of the European Commission and the author goes on to argue that for very good reasons (clarity and enforceability, among others) the rules should be interpreted in this way. Beginning with market definition, the book reviews the different rules and the different degrees of market power they incorporate. Thus it analyses the notion of 'appreciable restriction of competition' to find a moderate market power obtained by agreement among competitors to be the benchmark for the application of Article 101 TFEU, ex Article 81TEC. It then goes on to the concept of dominance under Article 102 TFEU, ex Article 82 TEC, which is equivalent to substantial (or important) market power and then focuses on the old and new tests for EU merger control. Finally, it addresses the idea of elimination of competition in respect of a substantial part of the market (Article 101 (3) TFEU, ex Article 81 (3) (b) TEC), in which the last two types of market power (Article 102 TFEU, ex Article 82 TEC and EU Merger Regulation) converge. To exemplify this, an in-depth study of the notion of collective dominance is made. The book concludes that a paradigm of market power exists under the EU antitrust rules that both fits with past practice and provides for a useful framework of analysis for the general application of the rules by administrative and even more importantly judicial authorities in the Member States, under conditions of legal certainty.
Many countries are betting for renewable sources of energy. This situation is due to three main reasons; the increase of energy consumption, the knowledge about fossil sources limitation, and the effect of pollution on climatic change. At the present, one of the renewable alternatives is the photovoltaic solar energy, where the solar radiation is captured in the PV cells to generate electricity. The electricity production through the use of photovoltaic panels has increased strongly during the last years in some of the relatively sunny and developed countries. Spain is one of the countries with most power capacity installed but photovoltaic development has been linked to subsidies and after the spectacular growth during the end of the last decade the sector is now stalled. In order to understand the situation of the photovoltaic sector in Spain and the expectations under the current scenarios, this paper provides a profound analysis using the System Dynamics methodology as the main tool.
